No you are eyes are not deceiving you, yes that does say whisky tasting online – or online whisky tasting if you will! An online whisky masterclass is a new and fantastic way to do something together that is fun and educational, reinforce team cohesion at a time when it is vitally needed (with so many of us still working from home), or just learn something new about five fantastic whiskeys.
For whisky lovers, there is no better way to spend an hour. We have been running our spirit tasting masterclasses for years, as both private and corporate events. However, the new norm dictates that many of these events need to take place online to comply with new social and company rules. How long these rules will last, nobody knows, but why let that stop you enjoying your life? Sure, many of these things are better in person – but carrying them out via video call doesn’t mean they are bad.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we can still see all of our friends, family, or colleagues – and share our experiences and thoughts in the same way. What’s more, you can control exactly what people see – so if you don’t want to get dressed from the waist down – don’t! Just remember not to stand up during the video call! So whisky tasting online doesn’t sound so bad after all?
In fact, an online whisky tasting is probably even easier than its in-person counterpart. We send out everything you need (apart from the glasses), direct to your door. The whisky box will contain 50ml of 5 whiskies of different varieties as well as five ‘posh’ snacks designed to pair with the whiskies. That’s right – you don’t just get to drink fine whisky, you also get to eat fine fancies such as dark chocolate truffles, dried meats, and fudge!
What does an online whisky masterclass actually entail then? We always find its best to kick off these group sessions with a little introduction from everyone, and of course your host – the whisky expert! Guests will then be taken through each of the 5 whiskies, with the host explaining everything from the varying production techniques to the characteristics and unique ingredients used to develop the different flavours. As long as you don’t drink all the whisky too quickly, you’ll be an adept whisky drinker yourself an hour later.
It’s amazing how such small changes to the process by the whisky distiller can equal such a huge change in the finished product. Everything from the design of the still, the locality of the water used, and the material of the barrel in which it is stored will all have grand implications. Be prepared to find out all the industry secrets in our online whisky masterclass.
