With each different cocktail, each different alcohol or liquor there is so much to be learned; from the subtle notes and flavours, to what is the best accompaniment, or perhaps what goes into making it. Here at Ace Bar Events we offer a number of different spirit tasting masterclasses, from whisky to rum, champagne to cognac and even cigars! Recently we were called in for a rum tasting masterclass, as part of a corporate experience for a law firm. Partaking in the seminar were a number of executives from the firm as well as some of their key clients.
This rum tasting experience couldn’t have chosen a better venue to host it in. Trinity House in London is a classical building steeped in nautical history. Still to this day Trinity House is a hub of nautical activity acting as the official General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, in addition to being the official deep sea pilotage authority, providing expert navigators for ships trading in Northern European waters. Constructed in 1514 Trinity House is one of London’s oldest and grandest buildings and an excellent venue for a corporate experience involving clients and team members alike.
Your session will begin with a short introduction by one of our spirit experts, followed by you getting to know your drinks! At this stage we will also introduce you to the history of the alcohol, as well as production techniques and of course that all important spirit tasting in our ISO tasting glasses. We have a large selection of spirits you can choose from or you can trust us to do our thing, in our recent rum tasting masterclass we had a selection of five different rums on offer from countries all over the world. Included were a white rum from New York called Owney’s, a Diplomatico Mantuano, A 12 year old Real McCoy Rum, Plantation rum and a Diplomatico 2001 Single Vintage.
This particular rum experience was for 35 people and lasted just over an hour. During the spirit tasting you will also learn about the designs and distillation process used by each of the different distillers around the world and in particular how small changes to the process can equal big differences in the finished product, in taste, texture and overall quality. During the tasting process you will be given five different uniques brands of your chosen spirit, after which you will be challenged to compare and contrast each – although we advise you sip them slowly!
Available in gin, rum, tequila, brandy, cognac, sherry, whisky, champagne and cigars – our spirit tasting sessions our an experience both your team members, guests or clients wont forget any time soon and provide a fantastic opportunity to share in a new experience together. The masterclasses are priced on a per head basis and can be held in any location of your choosing.
