A listed, or historical, building is one that has been placed on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. Naturally this is to protect the building in its original form. As a result of all the protection that surrounds listed buildings, managing an event that is due to take place in a listed building is not very straightforward.
At Ace Bar Events we have been managing and support listed building events for a number of years, during our time we have held events for a range of clients in different listed buildings – including the Tower of London, Wrest Park, and Tower Bridge. As a result we have a large amount of first hand experience in managing events in and around listed buildings, and therefore an understanding of the rules and regulations which govern them.
Our latest listed building event, was this week out in Versailles, France, at the famous Chateau Versailles. Well known as the place where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, which officially brought an end to World War One, Chateau Versailles (also known as the Palace of Versailles) is one of France’s most beautiful and valuable buildings.
We were invited out by our sister company Table Art France, who specialise in event decorations, LED table centrepieces, and event furniture hire. The event was for Renault and took place in one of the Chateau Versailles’ main rooms. Ace Bar events and Table Art were tasked with decorations, table design and furniture, and supporting the event overall; following a long conversation with the Chateau Versailles event manager on the lengthy rules and regulations which similarly govern listed buildings in France as they do in the UK. Essentially there are rules which relate to all areas of the event, such as only allowing certain floors to be covered, down to the aesthetics of the furniture and glassware. As the rules surrounding listed building events change from place to place, our advice would be to read up on the basics and discuss everything with the on site manager, or heritage manager.
