Due to obvious reasons, there are no events at the moment but that doesn’t mean everything has ground to a halt at Ace Bar Events. If there is one thing we love as much (maybe more) than hosting and supporting events, it is creating cocktails. With this in mind, our director, Andy, has been putting together a fun and informative series of videos from the safety of isolation entitled, Cocktails at Home. Can you see what we did there?
In fact, it is about more than just trying some new cocktails at home – too often cocktail recipes are filled with a huge array of spirits, specialist ingredients, and mixers many of us have never heard of. Now, these cocktails do taste amazing and this is the reason we love to visit bars to drink them, however at a time when we are all stuck at home with limited access to most cocktail ingredients, we thought it would be a good idea to show you how to make some cocktails you can make using tools and ingredients you (probably) have kicking around the cupboards!
With many of us having a little more time on our hands than usual, now is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or two and believe us when we say cocktail making is one that will pay dividends for years to come! It also a fun activity to do together, and as you will see in the videos, you don’t necessarily need all the cocktail shakers, strainers and everything else to do it.
In the first edition, Andy shows us how to make a twist on the classic Margarita and because triple sec is a spirit many people might not have lying around the house, he demonstrates how this can be done with a little orange squash instead! If you don’t have a jigger or measure, no problem! A standard egg cup measures about 25ml of liquid, no cocktail shaker? A jug or container with a lid will do the job! Tubaware can also be used to make a block of ice if you are don’t have a mould. We have tried our best to think of a work-around for everything. Now, time for the homemade Margarita:

In the second edition, we look at how you can make a homemade banana daiquiri using some extra bananas you might have knocking about, alongside a bit of lime and some rum! If you don’t have a juicer not to worry, any technique to squeeze the juice from a lime will work (make sure you give it a roll first!) – if you don’t have a Mexican elbow squeezer or a classic lemon juicer then a cutting the lime in half and stabbing it with a fork while twisting will do a decent job! And when it comes to measuring out your liquid, we may have accidentally said teacup when we meant eggcup. As we said above, a standard eggcup is about 25ml, a teacup is going to measure out as substantially more – so don’t use a teacup!

If you have had a go at making any of our cocktails at home or have adapted them, please get involved on our Facebook or Instagram and let us know! We love to hear about your experiences and try your own versions of the cocktails. We will be releasing a new Cocktail at Home every Thursday, so stay tuned to our social media channels for more!
