This why we love El Jimador Tequila

el jimador tequila

Whether that is for an event or our make at home cocktail boxes, we search far and wide for the perfect, complementary combination of ingredients. As you can imagine, this very serious part of research and development is in fact huge amounts of fun, particularly when it comes to trying the spirits… And when it came to tequila for our Mango Margaritas there was only one winner. This is why we love el Jimador Tequila.

In particular, we really love el Jimador Tequila Blanco and it appears we are not the only one! Since 2010 it has won more than 22 awards, including a Silver medal in the prestigious San Fransisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.

The finish and flavour palette enriches and complements the sweetness of the mango puree and triple sec in our Mango Margarita, which is only made better by the addition of fresh lime juice. A warm and spicy finish and a fresh aroma laced with citrus fruits, el Jimador Blanco has an authentic taste and sparkling clarity.

el Jimador story

It isn’t just the taste that impresses us, we have a lot of admiration for the work that goes into making every drop…

A jimador is a Mexican farmer that harvests the agave plants, which are the main ingredient behind the spirits mezcal, sotol, and tequila. The task requires years of experience as a good jimador should be able to identify a ripe agave. Agave ripening can take anywhere between 8-12 years.

The brand models itself on the skill and dedication of el Jimador, the master harvester in search of the Weber blue agave. To be branded el Jimador, it takes heart, soul, time, and experience. It is a name that is not earned easily. Grown in the sun-kissed soil of Amatitan, Jalisco, the tequila is distilled in the historic hacienda that sits beside the blue fields. No filler, no added colours, just 100% blue Weber agave tequila, crafted with determination and honour.

The Six Steps: From planting to pouring

Step 1: Planting. The agave is the beginning and the end when it comes to tequila. From a mother plant, el Jimador harvest offshoots rather than seeds. Generations of plants have gone into making el Jimador tequila over the years, just like the generations of jimadores pass their craft and skills to those who follow them.

Step 2: Harvesting. As the agave matures to perfection, the Jimador sharpens the blade of his coa. It takes years for the jimadores to master the art of this razor-sharp tool – it becomes an extension of themselves, cutting anything it touches. A few swings of the coa will expose the heart of the plant. If it’s not ready, the plant is left for another day.

Step 3: Preparation. Now the freshly harvested agave hearts – or piñas – are ready to offer their gifts. el Jimador artisan experts keep watch until the plant’s sweet, caramel juices and natural sugars are perfectly ready.

We use el Jimador tequila Blanco in our Mango Margaritas, which means when you order the Mango Margarita cocktail box you get a little bottle of El Jimador inside – just the right amount to make 6 cocktails. Our cocktail boxes are perfect if you appreciate a high-quality cocktail but you are new to making cocktails and don’t want to fork out for large bottles of all the different ingredients. Each box comes with just the right amount of spirits, mixers, garnish and more so not a drop gets wasted. Besides, with a tequila this good, wasting even a drop would be sacrilege!
